The aim of this course is to equip the students with the set of skills that are necessary for designing and working with photonic systems on a chip. Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) allow for building systems comprised of many optical devices on a single chip. This enables better stability, lower power consumption and lower cost. As of today the dominant established market for PICs is optical communications and computing, and emerging markets include biophotonics, quantum technologies, and sensors like those used in self-driving cars and other autonomous systems.
