The Frontiers of Nanomechanical Systems (FNS) conference, the biannual celebration of nanoscale mechanical motion, was this year held at the NTT basic research laboratories in Atsugi, Japan. QPL representatives Joey and Johan enjoyed a week full of inspiring talks and discussions while also meeting new and old friends from the nanomechanics community. QPL’s research was presented in the form of two posters. Joey presented his work on release-free electromechanical crystals while Johan’s poster focused on thermal noise thermometry in release-free optomechanical crystals for which he was awarded the best poster price! This award was only handed out to three of the 102 presented posters, highlighting the interest for the lab’s research!

We would like to thank the organizers for a fantastic conference and look forward to seeing what new groundbreaking research this field can cook up!
